The Hard Thing About Changing Jobs

Today was my final day at Colorado PERA, my employer for the past 5 years. I've decided to take a position with Commerce Kitchen as a Rails developer, which I am very excited about. However, leaving is hard.

Leaving a job means leaving friends. We covered for each other, we tackled problems together, we argued with each other, we had beers and shared laughs together. Those are the things that are independent of the technology, the development process, the industry. Coworkers become friends, and it's hard to leave friends, even if the new position has more potential or opportunity.

Thank you to all of the people at PERA that invested in me as a developer and as a person, I will miss each of you.
